Google Maps has features like a built in speedometer with posted speed limit that changes between white, orange, and red based on you current speed in relation to the posted speed limit. Maps also has the ability to control media from select services within Maps.
Another great feature is the ability to hear your SMS messages read aloud and respond. I have been using Google maps for years and am dependent on it. The constant updates to the app are fantastic and intuitive. The most recent update, when you switch from the initial view of your entire trip to the live driving and then back to the view of the overall trip, is precisely what I've been hoping for.
When you switch back now, the overall trip has been revised to where you currently are on your journey. This is fantastic. Overall great app. The only reason for 4 stars is because there is no option to turn off rerouting.
Rerouting will take you down unsafe roads and unsafe areas. I was on a trip and it kept trying to reroute me off the interstate down state roads or back roads. Also, you have to pay attention to the app while driving and not as much to the road because if not, you'll miss the pop-up and can't dismiss the rerouting.
This leads to unsafe driving.
